Today was Jackson’s birthday party and what a fun time we all had!  This year he decided he wanted a Super Mario bros birthday party and we had lots a lots of fun with the theme.

For Christmas Jackson got these great peel and stick Super Mario decorations which we used to decorate the walls of his party. Convenient that my kitchen is blue, isn’t it? The only thing we added was a cloud and some rolling green hills. Turned out really cute!

These were more decorations from the same peel and stick Super Mario kit. We put these in the dining room to liven up the place.

Isn’t this fun!?  We bought some gold star balloons and used a black sharpie marker to make the eyes. It really helped to bring the theme to life and Jackson really thought these were cool.

What party would be complete without a cake?  This fun cake was made using the Wilton Giant Cupcake Pan. We love this pan in our house!  It’s so versatile and my family loves the idea of getting a giant cupcake all for themselves

I made the giant cupcake and decorated it to look like one of Super Mario’s mushrooms.  I used white icing for the base with black licorice for the eyes. The head of the mushroom is white icing tinted orange with Wilton icing tints. I was really impressed.  It was the first time I’d ever used an icing tint and I was amazed by how vibrant the color was!  I only had to use a little bit and BAM…HUGE orange color!

The red circles are actually cupcake papers which I had left over from Valentine’s day. I trimmed off the sides and was left with the circular bases ~ perfect for mushroom spots!

The mini mushrooms were fun to make too!  We let our local grocery bakery make us some cupcakes in red, green and blue. Then, we simply used Mentos to make the spots.  As for the blue cupcakes, we went out and found some gold coin candies ~ you know…the kind that has chocolate in the centers?  We just put these on top and PRESTO…instant cupcake decorations!

Look at that precious little one…the smile on his face tells me he had the best birthday party EVER!  (until next year of course )
