Clutter Busting Challenge – Week 4

clean fridge

Holy Moly!  It’s already week 4 of my clutter busting challenge and I can honestly say that I’m starting to see a difference!  But, not just a difference in how my kitchen looks…but a difference in my family’s attitude too.

I’ve noticed a difference in my husband, Dave.  It seems like every time I come home he has cleaned out ANOTHER cabinet. So far we have 3 full boxes we have donated to charity and it feels so good to know we are finally beginning to take control of this clutter!  I have to say that I really feel a wee bit jaded…he’s showing me up on my OWN clutter busting posts!  Hmmmm…maybe it’s time to tackle the GARAGE for our next challenge (how you like that one Dave? :) ).

I never thought that getting organized and cleaning would be so much fun! It really helps me to know that you guys are following right along with me on this. Makes me feel like maybe I’m not the only one who struggles with this!

I really got my inspiration from a book that I have been reading called The Clutter Diet: The Skinny on Organizing Your Home and Taking Control of Your Life. It really has helped me to understand the psychology behind why I have so much clutter. It seems that our homes are a direct reflection of our insides. It’s really been a fascinating read!

But back to this week…it’s time to reveal Week 4′ s Challenge: Cleaning out the Fridge

Oh boy…did I just hear a collective GROAN come from my computer speakers?  Yes…we are going to tackle that fridge – the place where you are growing your science experiments. It’s time to take control of all THAT clutter too! So here is this challenge’s plan of action:

  1. Pull everything out of the fridge
  2. Throw out anything expired or inedible
  3. Wipe out the fridge
  4. Neatly place the good items back in

If you haven’t done this in awhile this is probably going to seem like a huge task.  If so, take it one day at a time. The first day just go through and throw out anything expired or inedible. The next – wipe down just one shelf and replace the items. Anything can be done in small chunks!

So this week our goals are:

  1. Keep the sink clear and dishes washed and put away before bed
  2. Keep counters clear of clutter
  3. Clean out just 1 cabinet and donate the clutter to charity
  4. Clean out the fridge

You should be getting pretty close to having an uber-clean and organized kitchen!  I know I am :)   But there is one more area we need to talk about next week…it’s probably the place that needs the MOST organizing that gets overlooked. Can you guess what place that is?
