Bubbles Make Bathtime FUN!

Last night I was giving a bath to Jackson, my 4 year old son and sitting back enjoying watching him splash around in the tub while moving his plastic dinosaurs in and out of the bubbles. He likes to put a hole in the center of a bunch of bubbles and call that his “volcano”.

If you have ever just sat and watched a child playing you will see just how free and easy life can be. Maybe this is why I love it so much, it reminds me that it is ok to be a little silly or a little childlike everyday.

My son Jackson did NOT like bathtime because it lead to going to bed. Okay, what kid to you know who actually LIKES getting ready for bed???

Jackson and I seemed to constantly butt heads about bath time. He’s no fool…he knows that right after bath time comes the dreaded “B” word..BEDTIME!

*insert dramatic music here*

So, because Jackson didn’t like the “B” word he would do just about anything to avoid his night time bath. Have you ever chased a 4 year old little boy running naked around the house giggling at you because you can’t catch him? *raises hand* I sure have and on more than one occasion too :)

At Christmas I received some interesting scented bubble baths from my sister. They were cookie scented!!  Seriously, Snickerdoodle, Chocolate chip and Oatmeal Raisin.  YUMMY!  I wasn’t the only one who was interested in what they smellled like…Jackson wanted to smell them too. While the lightbulb SHOULD have gone off at that moment… it didn’t.

It wasn’t too long after Christmas that we began the same old unhappy bath time routine again. It was during one of our games of naked chase that it dawned on me to try using the bubble bath as bait.

I stopped and asked Jackson, “Hey…do you want to use Mommy’s cookie bubble bath?”

After a moment of watching the gears turning in his head a huge smile came across his face. We opened each bubble bath so he could take a sniff of each one to decide which one he wanted to smell like…Snickerdoodle? Chocolate Chip? Oatmeal Rasin?

Snickerdoodle it was.

I poured a capful into the tub. My husband and I took turns sniffing the air and telling him that someone smells yummy…good enough to eat!  This results in tickling and giggling that makes our new bath time ritual so much fun!

Scented bubble baths aren’t difficult to find. You can find your standard grape and bubble gum type flavors at your local grocery store. For the more exotic flavors you will need to go to bath specialty stores. The ones that I received were by a company named Philosophy.
