The Clutter Busting Challenge – Week 2

Good Morning and Welcome to Week 2 of my Clutter Busting Challenge!

This past week was a lesson in patience and perseverance. It was really difficult to keep myself on track with the dishes for some reason!  I suppose maybe it could be because I was TRYING to change something instead of just doing without worrying about changing. My mind tends to sabotage itself when I purposely try to change things for the better.

It is almost as if there is a little devil sitting on my shoulder which tries to get me to do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING but the task I have set out to do.

I’m still trying to pretend I’m deaf…but it doesn’t always work :)

So, hopefully you have a clear sink and your dishes are put away this moring….right? :)   If you are ready ~ let’s move right along to our Week 2 Assignment!  If not…um…okay let’s move on to our next project and PROGRESS from there.

This week I am going to build upon what I started last week.  So my tasks this week are:

  1. Keep the dishes done and put away
  2. Keep the kitchen counter tops clear of clutter and all paperwork in one spot

This second one is going to be more of a challenge than the first. This is because our kitchen counter tops is a clutter and paper magnet in our house. This is because the kitchen is the first place we all go to after we get home from anywhere. It is our central meeting zone.

So, preschool projects, mail, etc… ends up sitting on the counter top and keeps piling up until someone (mainly myself) gets frustrated enough to clean it all up. We also have a tendency to let the mail sit there. LOL – it’s my way of avoiding my bills :)   But, it’s not helping to keep me happy now is it?

Just take a look…it’s a mess!

Wow...this is embarassing!

So this week’s project is not only to keep those counter tops clean but also to create a place for all of those things to go every time they come home.  All mail must be gone through; pitching the junk mail and putting the bills down by our computer for scheduled payment before I go to bed every night. This is on top of making sure that the dishes are done and put away every night.

Seems crazily overwhelming to me right now!  But, so did keeping the dishes clean and put away each night and now I’m starting to feel like that is becoming a habit and much less overwhelming.

It’s all about the progression..not the perfection!  As long as you understand that you are much better today than you were yesterday you are doing just great!

Now…off to clean off that counter top!

I think I’ve finally got the dishes down pat (after 38 years lol) I use my 2 minute 20 second challenge to do it. I empty the dishwasher during the time it takes to heat my coffee water in the morning. It’s working QUITE well, which I’m really excited about since dishes have been my nemesis forever! Your counter looks like my dining room table. YIKES. That one scares me, I just have no plan to keep up with it. Seems if I clean it all off (which can take an hour lol) it looks the same in a day or two. Can’t wait to hear how you do and how you do it!
